Tyeb Mehta 1925-2009
Tyeb Mehta was born in 1925, in Kapadwanj, Gujarat. He studied painting at the Sir J. J. School of Art,
Bombay and was associated with the Progressive Artist's Group. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2007.
Tyeb Mehta passed away peacefully and gracefully in the early hours of the 2nd of July, 2009.
Tyeb Mehta - what can we say but that he lived life, confronting its contradictions
and embracing its challenges with joy and zest.
A son, a husband, a father, a friend, a painter - Tyeb lives on in our memories.
We would like to invite all his friends and well-wishers to share their memories of him,
his life, his work and his passion.
At Prithvi Theatre, on Monday, the 6th of July, 2009, 5:00 pm onwards.
